Investiture is a ceremony at which honours or rank are formally conferred on a particular person. In the UK, around 2,600 people are invested personally by the monarch or another member of the royal family each year. Approximately 25 investitures are held annually, usually either at Buckingham Palace or in Windsor Castle. Honours include various orders, decorations, medals and other awards.
Columbus Day is a national holiday in many countries of the Americas, and a federal holiday in the United States, which officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas. He went ashore at an island in the Bahamas, on October 12, 1492. In the US some states do not celebrate it as a national holiday or do not recognize it and have replaced it with celebrations of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
