Your class teacher is planning an educational trip. She/he has asked the students to come up with ideas for the trip. You have seen an advertisement for an event at the British Museum which you find interesting. You have decided to write an extended PROPOSAL for a similar event in your country.

SLEEPOVERS AT THE BRITISH MUSEUM

Join us for an unforgettable night at the British Museum!

Get closer to history and experience the Museum after dark with Young Friends Sleepovers. Each sleepover has a unique historical theme and you'll have the opportunity to take part in workshops, activities and storytelling designed to bring the past to life.

After an action-packed evening, you'll spend the night sleeping in one of the museum galleries, surrounded by kings and gods from the ancient world. In the morning, you'll have breakfast and the chance to undertake an exclusive gallery trail before the Museum opens to the public.

FEARSOME ANCIENT ROME

  • Discover a world of cruel emperors, ferocious gladiators and magical legends.
  • £65 per adult/child
  • Saturday 13 April – Sunday 14 April 2024
  • This sleepover is for 8–15-year-olds
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Adults cannot attend without an affiliated child within their group
  • Each adult can bring up to four children
Itinerary
Saturday night

18.15: Registration – meet your group leader, choose a sleeping spot in the Ancient Rome gallery
19.00: Introductory talk including health and safety information
19.20: Crafting: ancient Roman mosaics
20.15: Cooking: a traditional ancient Roman fruit tart
21.00: Snack break
21.50: Playing: ancient Roman musical instruments
22.45: Storytelling: the life of a gladiator
23.30: Activities end
00.00: Midnight – lights out

Sunday morning

07.00: Breakfast, pack up sleeping area
07.45: Farewell activity (Explore our latest exhibition Legion: life in the Roman army, with a special Horrible Histories trail.)
08.15: Visit to the children's shop
09.00: Bag collection and home time

Task requirements

Your proposal should fulfill the following functions.

  1. Analyze the global museum heritage and the specifics of the given advertisement.
  2. Compare the museum event with museum events in Russia.
  3. Inform the teacher about a similar event plan in a museum of your choice.
  4. Persuade the teacher to follow your recommendations.

Make sure your proposal has the given structure, answers all the questions, and meets all the requirements. Come up with your own subheadings to divide your proposal and guide your reader (Questions are allowed).

The introduction.

  • Why are museums important for the humankind?
  • Is it enough to know only about the local museums? Why or why not?
  • How do museums educate visitors?

The comparison of the event offered at the British Museum with events in Russian museums.

  • Are there museums in Russia that compare to the British Museum? If yes, in what ways are they similar to and different from it? Provide examples. If not, do we need museums like that? Why or why not?
  • Do Russian museums explore the same themes, historical periods, and cultures? Provide examples. If not, why not?
  • Would you and your classmates/friends be interested in these themes, historical periods, and cultures? Why or why not?
  • Do Russian museums offer similar events and activities? Provide examples. If not, why not?
  • Would you and your classmates/friends be interested in similar events and activities? Why or why not?

 The recommendations of an event in a museum of your choice.

  • Come up with a catchy title for the event.
  • What museum hosts this event?
  • What theme is the event devoted to?
  • What target audience is it aimed at?
  • What activities are included in the package?
  • Organisational details: time, fees, number of visitors, etc.

 Write your proposal in a formal or semi-formal style.

Use at least 5 words/phrases highlighted in bold from the advertisement.

Write at least 250 words.
